District #7  2026-2027 District Commander's project -   "Fund 87 Jr. Shooting"

Dear American Legion Members and Families,

For my project this year, I am respectfully requesting your support for the American Legion Junior Shooting Program through Fund 87.

The American Legion Junior Shooting Program is a nationally recognized youth development program that promotes firearm safety, marksmanship, discipline, leadership, and citizenship. Guided by certified instructors and dedicated Legion volunteers, junior shooters learn responsibility, respect, and self-confidence in a structured and safe environment. These lessons strongly reflect the American Legion’s mission to mentor youth and strengthen our communities.

Fund 87 exists specifically to support Junior Shooting programs throughout Minnesota. In addition to sustaining existing programs, I have a vision to acquire a fully equipped Junior Shooting trailer that could be made available to local clubs for up to one year at a time.

This trailer would be outfitted with essential shooting equipment, safety gear, and program materials. The goal is to provide Posts and clubs with the tools needed to get a Junior Shooting program up and running, allowing them time to build participation, train volunteers, and establish long-term sustainability before transitioning to their own equipment. This shared resource would remove a major financial barrier for new and developing programs across the state.
